Nagerhole wildlife sanctuary, which is 490 kms from Mananthavady is in Karnataka. It extends over an area of 643.39 sqkms. The park houses diverse species of plant and animal life. It situates near to Tholpetti and it is in Coorg district. The entry in Kerala is though Tholpetti via Kutta. The park is well connected to adjoining areas of Karnataka. Motorable highways link the park to the towns of Madikere (90 km) and Mysore (96 km) . The journey from both places lasts approximately 2 hours. The nearest well-connected railway junction is Mysore, while the nearest international airport is Bangalore (220 km).
Nagarhole Park was set up in 1955. In 1975, its area was increased to include a greater expanse of forest reserve. The original forest was once an exclusive hunting ground for the erstwhile Maharajas of Mysore. The park has been recently renamed as Rajiv Gandhi NationalPark after the late Prime Minister of India. Nagarhole National Park is counted among India' s best wildlife parks. It has a large elephant and bison population. It also hosts a variety of animal species along with approximately 250 species of birds. On its northern confines is the Kabini River and on its southern fringes is the Bandipur national park.

Reach the statuary by early morning to get a good sight of animals. One must arrive at the park gates well before dusk, for the road through the park that leads to the lodges is prone to elephant blocks and closes at 6 pm. Those interested in trekking should avoid visiting the park during monsoons as floods wash out most of its dirt tracks and leeches render trekking impossible.

Bandipur wild life sanitary forms the connecting link between the Mudumalai wildlife sanctuary in Tamil Nadu and the Wayanad wildlife sanctuary in Kerala. It has an area of 874 sq.kms.
The Bandipur project tiger national park and wildlife sanctuary is very near to Wayanad. From Muthanga in the Mysore road, turn from Gundalpattu to reach Bandipur. There are more than 3000 elephants and 70 leopards. This national park occupies a special place in India's efforts towards natural conservation. It was created in the 1930s from the local Maharaja Voodiyar's hunting lands, and named Venugopal Wildlife Park. Bandipur National Park was expanded later in 1941 to adjoin the Nagarhole National Park, which lay towards its northern edge, and Wayanad and Madumulai Sanctuaries, which lay towards its southern edge in the states of Kerala and Tamilnadu, respectively.
The lifeline of the forest is the Moyar River, which irrigates the area along with two minor rivulets. The river also acts as a boundary between the Park and the Madumalai Sanctuary.

It takes 2½ hours to reach Bandipur forest from Mysore and about 3 hours from Ooty.

The Bandipur van safari is 30-minute drive in a 25 seater van costing Rs 75 per person.
The timings: 6.30 am to 9 am and 3 pm to 6 pm
The Bandipur –Mudumalai elephant safari includes a 10-minute ride on the elephants in Bandipur, which would cost you Rs 50 per head.
In Mudumalai, the elephant's safari is for 30 minutes. The tickets for the same are sold at the Ooty forest office and half the tickets are sold at the Mudumalai Thepekadu reception counter.
A maximum of four persons are taken on one elephant costing Rs 100 per head.
The tickets are sold on a first come first serve basis and do make your bookings in advance.

The Mudumalai National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary, now also declared a Tiger Reserve, lies on the northwestern side of the Nilgiri Hills (Blue Mountains), in Nilgiri District, about 160 km north-west of Coimbatore in the westernmost part of Tamil Nadu. Mudumalai, which means 'first hills', is one of the first wildlife sanctuaries established in India. The sanctuary is divided into 5 ranges - Masinagudi, Thepakadu, Mudumalai, Kargudi and Nellakota. It is in inside Tamil Nadu border and can be reached after traveling through Ooty road from Bandipur forest. Here one can often spot herds of elephants.
Moyar river and Nilgrir form its borders. The Western Ghats, Nilgiri Sub-Cluster including all of Mudumalai National Park, is under consideration by the UNESCO World Heritage Committee for selection as a World Heritage Site. Tourist hubs like Ooty, Paikara dam, Cunoor, Mukkuruthi peak, Kaliatty, Doddabetta, Upper Bhavani, Kodanadu viewpoint and Kodagriri are near to it.
